Gemz Diamond Setting had its initial start about 45+ years ago when Gerry apprenticed as a diamond setter at the tender age of 15. It was through these formative years from a 9 year training program that he learned much of his now well known techniques of setting. He then graduated with an additional 6 years leading to be a setting journeyman. After completing his 15 years at a well-known jewellery company in Toronto, Canada he branched out on his own. During the past 10 years, he saw that there was a great lack of teachers for setters willing to train others. At this moment he is now teaching Gem Stone Setting at one of Canada's leading vocational schools, also in Toronto.
Gerry, has now amassed a series of 55 articles, or essays describing many setting techniques. Many of his setting notes and books have gone to over 10 countries around the world. He is very adamant in his belief that setting is no longer a closed, or a private skill. It 'must' be shared to all who are wiling to learn.
He is now known around the world in certain circles of this trade as "Gerry, the Cyber-Setter!". His mark on this field is shown through his many accolades and thanks from many of his students and readers from his writings on "Orchid" and the well known "Bench" magazine.
His many essays appear in the " MJSA-AJM ", " Bench " and on a web-forum called " Orchid ". His newest addition to his writing of essays, is to appear in the " Jewellery Business " in Canada for the March/07 issue.
